Data and Products

Our most important task is to contribute to securing lives and values. We do this by providing weather, environment and climate projections, forecasts and alerts to individuals, emergency services and public authorities.

Our services are supported by data from observations, numerical simulations and data assimilation systems. Variability in both time and space is common to the monitored parameters, and the data provides an important basis for many decision-making processes and activities in society.

In purchasing our vision to provide easy, secure and stable access to dynamic geodata, we align with the FAIR Guiding Principles for Scientific Data Management and Stewardship. Our datasets are enriched with metadata to simplify discovery and reuse through standard interfaces. Yet, “FAIRifying” our data and services is still an ongoing process, and the current data catalog is expected to grow with time.

Alongside the generic open data services, MET Norway hosts several custom services dedicated to specific users and applications. These include websites providing forecast services (e.g., Yr), climate and air quality services, and danger warning among others. Specific APIs serving the data behind these services are openly accessible from https://api.met.no.
